“Bedroom Thang” – ZZ Top
Originally Released on “ZZ Top's First Album” (London 1971)
Also available as a horribly remixed CD I won't even mention
I discovered ZZ Top, like many others, through “Tush”, and worked my way backwards. The first album took me a bit of time to get into, as it was more naked, buesy and raw, but damn I love that album! I however HATED the remixed CD-version and I refuse to even play it! I just noodled a bit with the riff of “Bedroom Thang” at the House Of Guitars in Rochester, when visiting Joe at Grooveyard and he immediately said – I HAD to do the track. I wasn’t that hard to convince. The plan was to record “Bedroom Thang” already on the first album, but time schedules crashed and it was shelved. This time we just HAD to do it. I however felt the first version wasn’t good enough, so I decided to slow it down a bit, add a soft bluesy intro and make it a bit heavier. ZZ Top with a drop-D Les Paul! This time Sky High main man Clas Yngström thankfully managed to make time (even though I was a bit nervous when he was in hospital because of a loose cornea). Clas’ bluesy licks and cool vocal approach really makes the track, add Mikael Nord Andersson’s killer solo before my closer solo.
Line-up:
Clas Yngström: vocals
Janne Stark: lead/rhythm guitar, bass
Clas Yngström: lead guitar
Mikael Nord Andersson: lead guitar
TrumPeter Svensson: drums
